Who are the ‘Seasonal Beets’?
We are 6 international master students from 6 different countries coming together to study the LUMES programme – Lund University’s Master of Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science. This project is part of our final subject in our second year called 'Making Change Happen'.
What do we do?
We try to promote seasonal eating to students at Lund University.
We work directly with Student Nations to encourage the use of seasonal produce in their dishes without compromising on price or taste.
We provide inspiring recipes, innovative and exciting food knowledge on our blog.
How do we do it?
We have adopted a "Train the Trainer" approach to deliver our message directly to the people that can really make a difference in the way the Nations operate, from deciding the recipes to ordering the food, planning the themes for the pub nights and serving the food itself on the night. We want to reach the people who can take positive action and can really make a difference in working towards sustainability at every step of the Nation’s food chain.
We developed the ‘train-the-trainer’ event based on the idea that we wanted to create an exciting, interactive food experience as the arena in which to share our knowledge and passion on local and sustainable food with the people who are responsible for cooking it. We are passionate about trying to make a more sustainable world and we believe that no actions taken towards doing so are too small.
Our train-the-trainer events demonstrate that doing the right thing is possible, it tastes good, it’s cheap and most importantly it can be fun: a win win-win situation!
Through the method of training-the-trainers, we hope to spark off an organic process that spreads the passion and enthusiasm of our message far and wide, planting the seeds with the people who can make the sustainability message blossom and grow. Training the trainer means scattering “The Seasonal Beets” knowledge to the Nation staff and then passing it down the Nation’s food chain to the Nation chefs, Nation members and hopefully the rest of the Lund University community!
